I may have just creamed my pants a little. Broadcasting live from the Oh My! beat fortress, I bring you the latest and greatest from Dave Taylor. Switch has long since been one of my favorite producers, and honestly, I’ve been a little bummed about his left turn into the baile-daggering world of Major Lazer. Granted, Pon de Floor changed the game — but where did everyone’s favorite wonk-house wizard go?
Anyways, enough with the talk. I pressed play on this beast and have once again bestowed my faith upon Taylor. This track is nonsense. Just.. utter greatness. A nice chunky stuttered kick and punchy snare accompany the pumping atmospherics in the background. The bass wobbles are proper wonky, flashing me back to ’09 — and don’t forget that lead whistle-wobble that bounces in and out on its quick 1/16th beat rhythm. YUM!
Coming out on Sugarcane Recordings on Dec. 15th. Oh yeah, and as you saw, the release also features remixes from Two Fingers (Amon Tobin & Doubleclick) and Hot Chip. Mark your calendars and grab da hotness!
Lets all take a second and hope that there is more of this juiciness to come. Thank you again, Dave. This track will be in my sets all damn month!
So I just discovered this cat Benson who’s doing some great things all the way across the globe. His latest remix is some super prime wonky tech house. Check it!
My debut EP dropped yesterday. Catch a few jackin’ house tracks I made over the past couple months — all with a bit of my signature ghetto flavor.
Here’s what Bone Idle had to say about the release:
“We have worked with Oh My! right back when the label was first started and he charted on Trackitdown with his first remix for Andru Pozzatron making waves across the soundcloud community with his unique style. When he’s not running his ever popular blog CHWYRVTMS or doing amazing designs (yep he did his own EP cover above to perfection), he’s locked in his studio banging out tunes of the twitchy, cut up house variety. Oh My! has a particular style in his sounds, with a brilliant ear for samples, he can take any sound/snippet/hit and turn it into a complete track with each part carefully placed to create an amazing collage of joyous noise (check out his Double Rainbow remix of Kunter:bunt’s ‘The Brightest Color’ for a fine example of how theYouTube rainbow man made it to stardom).
His debut EP doesn’t sway from the remix styles you all know him for, and once again we are excited to present three original tracks from the master of jack. Pack your bags, were off to bounce!”
A track doesn’t get much more gangster sounding than that. I mean, c’mon, ‘Cakes & Jewelry’? (If you’re scratching your head at this point, perhaps you need to enlighten yourself — see definition 2.2). You know ma boy Sean Taylor is gonna be comin’ hard with a song named like that. It’s reinsuring to know that in a small genre that has long since left the spotlight, that some people are still out there keeping things alive. Sean keeps it wonky, and boy does he know how to bend some pitch and chop some vox! This track isn’t heavy on a wobble, its rather funky actually, making this some really fun and danceable stuff! Lots of bounce and a bassline that will get you bobbin’ head in no time!
Next up, a track that threw me about 2 years back in my earlier days of fidget. That abundance of bendy bass hitting you from every side of the stereo-space is reminiscent of Clark Able’s early work (and hey, Crooker’s still does fidget — Bumblebees anyone?). This track is straight dumb. The good kind of dumb. The dumb that makes you do this face, and whip your hair back and forth.
Today I bring you my latest bootleg. It’s pretty jackin, borrowing elements from b-more and turning it all upside down with some wonked-out fidget wobbles. It breaks down to funk-filled chops of the original tune, and slams back in with just the right amount of filth, keeping the horn stabs and guitar plucks prominent in the mix.
The discovery of these cats really got me excited. Very promising new material coming from 3D Criminalz. They’re a duo residing in London, and they caught they’re first break after winning the Wonked Records remix competition for a track called Don’t Give Up The Disco. I don’t think I’ve been this excited about the genre in a while — I mean, I hear lots of good tunes all the time, but this next track was a straight hitter. On a scale of 1 to banger, this tune is definitely the latter. Good lordy! Put that thizz face on and have yourself “some fun tonight.”
And because I’m feeling extra wobbly, nab this one up too. A plethora of wobble variation is served up in Sanka Coffee’s remix of Jimmy Raz’ Like That.
In my last post I forgot to write about the forthcoming Ghetto Funk EP from Baboon Tunes, so I’m back to drop some knowledge real quick-like. The EP features a host of great artists, such as Stereo Skunk, Teke Lips, and 6T9. All kinds of jackin’ tunes here, so keep your eyes out for this release, coming August 30th, because it’ll get that body twerkin.
You can check out the rest of the previews from the release at the Baboon Tunes soundcloud, here.
