Crunch Theory’s Audiotistic 2011 Mix

Wednesday, August 24th, 2011

I recently had the huge honor of opening up the main stage at Insomniac’s Audiotistic Festival this July. It was a ridiculous experience and really just made me want to get back on a sound system that fat as soon as humanly possible. To commemorate the occasion, I am releasing my “Audiotistic 2011 Mix” for you to bump in your car, on the bus, or at a calm luncheon or dinner party.

Grinding fidget madness with traces of jackin’, tech and disco.

Check It!

Thursday, March 31st, 2011

I’m always looking for that straight-up funky-ass no-bullshit jackin’ wonk groove… And it’s not always easy to find just what I’m looking for, but recently I was graced with a forwarded email from Klangekstase Records and was way too happy with the outcome. The email regarded Campbell’s new EP “Check It,” which came out early last month. All three of the original tracks on the EP (“Check It,” “Make It Bump,” and “Slush Puppy”) fulfill exactly what I’m talking about. When I listen to or even just think about these tracks, my mind becomes too boggled with excitement and fixation to even speak. And yet here I am trying to do so. The words that I can come up with to give you a picture of Campbell’s bouncy, bangin’ productions are: delicately juicy percussion textures; a REALLY fresh-sounding bass synth; long exhilarating breakdowns; very well-chosen samples such as those in “Slush Puppy” that are from the Beastie Boys’ “Body Movin’.”

The remixers on the Check It EP all deliver fun, crafty work as well. I’d like to point you towards Whack Flava’s “Check It” remix in particular.

Supply in Demand

Thursday, October 21st, 2010

A staple of the South African fidget house scene, Nick Supply has always delivered the goods with some of the cleanest, juiciest fidget on this planet. He began owning the scene at 17, and he now seems to be casually kicking ass with each new release. He first caught my attention a couple years ago with “Hizniz” when Stupid Fresh remixed it, then “Phat Jak” when WoNK and Aquilaganja remixed it, and then I came across “Guava Mouth,” and the addiction of shouting “man eating iguana” kicked in.

Here’s a remix of his that I’ve been listening to lately. It’s certainly some dirty ass fidget, but it’s got this really soulful power behind it.

Get Stellar – The Moment (Nick Supply Weapon2 Remix)

This next track has been one of my absolute favorites during the past year and a half. I used to listen it all the time on a mix CD in my girlfriend’s car but could never figure out who it was. I should have known… the one and only Nick Supply, “SA’s booty bass legend-in-the-making preaching fidget as ‘the way!’”

Lars Moston – So Sick (Nick Supply’s Remix)

Now go show NS some Beatport love!

Welcome to the Hard Knock Cafe..

And today’s special is: Beat Soup served with a fresh Bangeruette. We got some top-notch fidgetry here, from the home of the wonkiest pitch-bent house music you can get your hands on, South Africa. Baboon Tunes comes hard with great artists like Schenk, Oliver Leigh & Jeff Doubleu. They just released Jack of All Trades: Part 2 on June 7th, and oh boy is this some exciting stuff! I was at work when I happened upon the release, and I ended up listening to almost every single track on the Baboon Tunes Soundcloud. And hey, I’ll be honest, I really hadn’t heard of a bunch of these artists, but I assure you, Baboon Tunes is serving up some seriously jackin’ house music.

Unfortunately I don’t have anything but Soundcloud preview tracks here, but we may have some downloadable promos from the label in the future — so stay tuned and put on them listening ears for all these tracks!

Let’s Mix!

letsmix

Let’s Mix has been around for awhile now. I remember reading about the website through some blogs a while back and thought the concept was pretty sweet. When I first visited the site, it wasn’t too big, and not too many mixes had actually made there way onto the platform. It has since gained a lot of popularity and is now home to thousands of mixes!

I’ve just been loading up this site during work and randomly picking mixes — and for the most point I haven’t been disappointed. The site tells you exactly what track is playing during the mix, so hunting down them choonz just got a bit easier! Hoorah!

About Let’s Mix and the people behind it:
Simply: an online platform where you can listen to music mixes and upload, share and promote your own music mixes. The people behind Let’s mix spend pretty much all of our waking hours listening to or interacting with music. Some of us DJ on the regular when not writing code, others just love hearing new music, sharing it and giving new life to old tracks by mixing them up.

For some reason, we never really found a place on the web that catered to all our different needs. We wanted to find new music from our favorite DJ’s and labels. But also be able to easily upload, manage and promote the mixes we do ourselves, without all the hassle of using different FTP sites, copy-pasting track lists to blogs and social networks – and still end up with something that looks like crap because it’s just a boring old download link.
