As usual, Will Bailey totally killed it while no one was looking. Or at least I wasn’t looking. Just when you thought Will had already put out enough ingenious floor whompers this year and deserved a lengthy sabbatical, here comes this “Lizard EP,” showcasing five new pieces. Each of these tracks prove Will’s out-of-this-world innovative powers a dozen times over.

Out of the five, we’ve got three electro house, one moombahton, and one “down tempo spaceship electro” (“Spaceship Funk”), which is probably intended to be dropped during moombahton sets.

Meanwhile, “Offline” starts with big-room Swedish-house-style synth hooks (something completely unexpected from the dirt master Will Bailey), but wait it out about a minute and a quarter because a surprise awaits you.

“Warehouse,” sonically, seems to be a story about two reptilian android creatures: One is very grumpy about being woken up by the other, so the other decides to irritate him even further by throwing sour gummy worms at his head. Hilarity ensues.

“Mean Streets” is – as declared by the genre label Will placed on this one – a story about the childish temper tantrum of a raging warlord in feudal England. Will knows a lot about these things because he himself is English.

The title track for this EP, “Lizard,” is simply moombah done right. It kind of embodies where moombahton is at right now but completely picks up the slack where a lot of other moombahton tracks are lacking.

The latest update from Breakdown is a huge remix of Ralvero’s “Drunk Tonight” featuring Whiskey Pete. Breakdown’s take on the original Dutch house track is a murderous electro house version reminiscent of something from a Simian Mobile Disco DJ set.

Hello boys and girls! This is Oh My!, captain of the S.S. CYV™, and I’m hear to tell you a story (..that rhymed. Boom!). I’ve been thoroughly preoccupied with finishing up my last semester of school, ever. I’ve taken my last finals, given my last presentations, and written the last “essays” I will ever have to write in my life. Let me tell you, it feels amazing! On top of all this, I’ve been busy working on various design projects and producing tracks non-stop. I let the blog fall pretty behind — this post consists of submissions from more than 30+ e-mails. Annnnnd next, we have the newest EP from Jay Brooks entitled the ’88 EP.’ Dropping on Bone Idle Records, the label that picked me up to remix Andru Pozzatron’s ‘Get on Up’ (which climbed as high as #13 on the DJ Download electro-house charts). Anyways, the tracks are quite bouncy and mostly fidget in nature, but the multi-faceted Jay Brooks switches it up, delivering a funkier side to his production abilities with ‘FYC.’ This EP dropped on the 13th and is available for purchase now. The guys from Bass Music Blog always bring the heat, and they have rightfully done so with this last release from HeavyFeet. They’re now exactly 3/4 of the way through their ’12 singles over 12 months’ project (April 2010 – March 2011) and this release has seen some great reactions from Skream, DJ Craze, AC Slater and many more. And now we can take a look at some way chill dub from Reixtra. Lots of real-recording percussion to give these tracks a truly organic feel. And all of that is delicately layered on top of some low-end sub-work that will get those speakers vibrating! This is truly my favorite side of the dub/bass movement. Here’s what I’m freakin’ out about lately.

Aniki’s “Superfly” brings together so many disparate feelings into such a pristinely textured, whomping banger, I can just hardly believe my ears! That synth bend at the beginning of each measure puts this beat on the map, but it’s the minimal percussion that really sells it. Aniki came up on some world renown through a remix contest not too long ago, and after chugging away at one masterpiece after the next, this “Superfly” remix may be his greatest work yet, despite the fact that it’s somehow listed as “Indie Dance / Nu Disco” on Beatport. Hah, yeah right… This is straight up House, baby.

A bit darker, but some seriously kickin’ stuff here. “Evolution” is at least partially about the evolution of Dylan’s productions.  More techy than most of his previous releases, “Evolution” keeps in line with the Holshausen style (hear the FX sweeps?) while exploring a markedly different sound.
