Dark Matter

darkmatter

This double CD release offers a selection of highlights from the Multiverse studio’s recent history. Leading the charge are both ‘Lion’ and ‘Pop Pop’ by Vex’d, records that formed the first bridge between classic British industrial music and dubstep, a fusion now championed by the likes of Surgeon, Distance and Milanese.

This appears alongside Joker and Ginz’s ‘Purple City’ the track that spearheaded the emergence of the Purple Wow phenomenon. Also present is Pinch’s ‘Qawwali’ one of the key tracks that broke dubstep to a global audience via Mary Anne Hobb’s Dubstep Warz compilation. Pinch’s influence within Multiverse extends across the compilation through his collaboration with P Dutty on ‘War Dub’, featured in the movie Children of Men, and ‘Get Up’ with Massive Attack vocalist Yolanda Quartey and Bristol legend Rob Smith (RSD). Equally the more avant-garde work of the studio is represented through Moving Ninja, an artist who pioneered the blurring of boundaries between dubstep and sound design, and emptyset, whose eponymous debut album fused the streamlined European minimalism of Mika Vainio and Raster Noton with Bristol’s unique bass heavy production style.

This ground breaking selection of tracks sit alongside contributions by techno/dubstep pioneer 2562, half-step progenitor Loefah, Skream and Caravan label boss October.

Crunch Theory

CYV™ would like to welcome Crunch Theory, otherwise known as Charlie Meyer, to our blog! He’ll be representin’ us down in L.A., as he recently moved back down to the southern side of Cali. Charlie has been known to absolutely melt your face off with wonked out fidget filth, so I’m sure he’ll be delivering the crunchiest of tracks. I’ve actually got two of his tracks that I’d like to post, the first being nothing short of awesome — a jackin’ electro remix of the Isley Brother’s Who’s That Lady? that just got re-mastered, so its extra crispy! The second tune is super funky and has some sweet sampling from Family Guy. Get it get it!

Trippin’ balls

trippinballs

Sticky Damage is the collaborative venture between Oliver Leigh and Kid Filth. Oliver is quite the favorite here on CYV, and any song named “Trippin’ Balls” is definitely worth the listen! This track is a straight fidget acid trip, reminiscent of the intensity displayed in Geoff K’s Fluffy Pillow. The track begins with some choppy tech-house percussion, sprinkling in dirty female vocals until the big resonating grind sneaks its way in, only to be topped with some more dirty squelched-out wobbles. Ungh! Shit is just filthy!

Sticky Damage – Trippin’ Balls

They’ve also got two more semi-recent singles out. Check ‘em out!

Sticky Damage – Welcome To Our House
Sticky Damage – Kick, Clap, Jack!

Change of Season

day party!

It is, and has been, officially summer for us over here in California. Winter seemed to drag on forever, even as hints of summer tried to break through during what was supposed to be spring. It was great for everything to finally transition into the wonderful weather we’re now basting in! We had our first day party just this past weekend, and I couldn’t have enjoyed myself more! Good tunes, good friends, and great weather; which is what brings me to this next mix.

I don’t know entirely too much about Misery Peat, except for that he is from Italy and that he spins and produces some ultra groovy, garage-dubby, downtempo type electronica. This mix has some great originals, and some awesome big names scattered throughout, such as Four Tet, Caribou, Flying Lotus & J Dilla. Awesome summertime feel-good jams right here! (And yes, this whole mix is even in 320!)

1. Misery Peat – Hegemony of Idleness
2. LV & Untold – Beacon (MOUNT KIMBIE Remix)
3. James Blake – I’ll Stay
4. Andrea – Got to Forget
5. Misery Peat – Ainis
6. CRST – Turn Away
7. Ramadanman – Don’t Change For Me
8. Kavsrave – Tightly Closed
9. Joe – Level Crossing
10. Misery Peat – Allegrise
11. Four Tet – Angel Echoes (Caribou Remix)
12. Illum Sphere – Technopolis
13. Cosmin TRG – See Other People
14. Flying Lotus – Do The Astral Plane
15. J Dilla – MASH

Bootymore

booty

Oh man! When this little gem popped up in the inbox, I was immediately excited. Finally, an excuse to post some hot butt on this blog! So there it is fellas, booty, and we all want more of it! (Get it? Bootymore? YEAH.)

So yeah, got some crackin’ new b-more coming from Yeah! Woho! This one is prone to start massive booty-shaking of the female kind. Something happens when a lyric comes on telling you to actually shake your butt — I’ve dropped Top Billin’s Shake My Ass with the pleasant result of overenthusiastic booty bouncing from the all ladies in the house. I’m going to go ahead and assume this shall do just the same! The fantastic horns blasting throughout this track, accompanied with that non-stop shaker, give this tune a really fun party vibe. Time for you to download and do what the damn song tells you to do!

Sir Nenis (Top Billin) says: “this club tune is dope, name is daft, but track is fire!”

Yeah! Woho! – Bootymore

And as a little bonus, we’ll go ahead and drop you the newest mixtape from Mr. Rombo.
