ohmy-comebackpost

Hello boys and girls! This is Oh My!, captain of the S.S. CYV™, and I’m hear to tell you a story (..that rhymed. Boom!). I’ve been thoroughly preoccupied with finishing up my last semester of school, ever. I’ve taken my last finals, given my last presentations, and written the last “essays” I will ever have to write in my life. Let me tell you, it feels amazing! On top of all this, I’ve been busy working on various design projects and producing tracks non-stop. I let the blog fall pretty behind — this post consists of submissions from more than 30+ e-mails. Some of these posts definitely deserve their own spotlight, so I apologize for this cluster-fuck of downloads, mixes, and soundcloud embeds.

Let’s begin, shall we?

(Molotov) Cocktail

In the past week I’ve definitely fallen behind on some blogging. I’m going to attempt to catch up by offering some music that touches down on a bunch of different genres — perhaps a “cocktail” of sorts. Not going to go into lengthy details on each track, just know that this is CYV™ and you best be grabbin’ all these things!

Discovered these cats through Soundcloud. This tune is a massive dub face-melter. They are also the reason for the awesome post image!
Dead Commies – Molotov3

Bass-filled R&B Jam to get them hunniez movin.
Heavyfeet ft. Rod Hotly & Kid Bliss – Last Two People

Red Squad always delivers. This is some quality fidget-grind with gangster vox sprinkled throughout.
RedSquad – Right Here

Jacked up fidget remake of Ava Rose’s “Say Yeah.” Has some tribal-esque vibe worked in too. Niiiice!
Ava Rose – Say Yeah (Jack Smith Bass Infected Remix)

Uh..so pretty much anything Renaissance Man touches turns to gold, so grab this bootleg rework of Windowlicker.
Aphex Twin – Windowlicker (Renaissance Man Bootcut)

Tech-house infused with a little bit of that jack jack jack! (Thanks Disturbed Beats!)
The Squatters Ft. Dutch Courage – Superfly (Little Bastard & ZubaGroove Remix)

This next track was my favorite out of the whole EP, but the rest are fantastic too. And again, thanks to Disturbed Beats for flowing me this one. Check out their blog for the rest!
Tombstone Ft. Larry Tee & Alexander Technique – Give ‘Em The Bizness (The Potato Heads Remix)

And this last one is a bit hard to define. I’d say it’s something along the lines of “Fidge-Hop.” It’s dope as all hell — perfect for droppin’ a hip hop vocal over. I might make an attempt in the near future! (And possibly an attempt to produce something in this realm)
Sean Taylor – Curious

Ghetto Funk

Monday, August 16th, 2010

joyrider20

In my last post I forgot to write about the forthcoming Ghetto Funk EP from Baboon Tunes, so I’m back to drop some knowledge real quick-like. The EP features a host of great artists, such as Stereo Skunk, Teke Lips, and 6T9. All kinds of jackin’ tunes here, so keep your eyes out for this release, coming August 30th, because it’ll get that body twerkin.

You can check out the rest of the previews from the release at the Baboon Tunes soundcloud, here.

Baboon tunes comes hard with their new Stereo Image EP, bringing you a great collection of remixes for Schenk’s original. I think my favorite remixes come from Killafornia & Hunter Vaughan — and I’ll give honorable mention to Kid Tech. Nothing with a serious wobble here, just some really quality jackin’ house music.

Schenk – Stereo Image (Original Mix)

Let’s not stray from our main focus here though; Schenk’s original sets the stage for all of these great remixes. A lovely melodic organ sneaks its way in around 1:50, taking you right into breakdown-town, all before throwing you right back into the washing machine. It’s after this drop that brings the blooperz — the proverbial icing on the cake! This tune is a definite contender on my playlist for this weekend! (Wake&Bake EOS holler!)

Wonko-tech!

I love me some jackin’ tech house and Jeff Doubleu really delivers on these two remixes — especially with his bootleg of I Feel Better. The song itself, post drop, resembles nothing of the original, but he sets aside the breakdowns for some untouched, unadulterated Hot Chip. Super bouncy two-steppin’ freshness mixed with some classic feel-good! Dead Voice Funk is quite the number too. Crossing the line further into the tech-house side of things, the remix is pumped with soft organ stabs, bongo hits, and a soothing, slightly melancholy, male vocal loop. Groovy stuff!

Hot Chip – I Feel Better (Jeff Doubleu Switches It Up Bootleg)
Hidenobu Ito – Dead Voice Funk (Jeff Doubleu Edit)

This leads segue into the next artist of recent discovery, JACK SM1TH. I really wanted to nab this first track for you guys, but it’s only available on his soundcloud for now, so take a listen! Some deep-ish tech house sprinkled with pitch-bendiez.

And heres a mellower interpretation of WoNK’s Don’t Give Up The Disco. Pretty wonky still, but not nearly as ear-blasting as the original!

WoNK – Don’t Give Up The Disco (JACK SM1TH Remix)

Bonus:
Green Velvet – Shake & Pop (Chaos in the CBD & Tom Lawson Remix)

Today is a special day! Some great fidget house coming from a local artist based out of Monterey CA, Doogie Houser. If I haven’t said it enough, I really enjoy supporting local music, and not only is this cat local, but he’s pumpin’ out some fidgety fire!

The Eastwood Swing is a great mix of wonky wobbles, piano stabs, and punchy percussion. Very jackin’, very housey — very good. What a great movie to sample! The second track, Raisin Brand is a bit more high energy, stabbing some 50 Cent vox throughout and dropping in some bloopers here and there. Pick em upppppp!
