I try my best not to constantly “re-blog,” as I feel that many blogs these days, whether they exist in the music realm or not, tend to simply be RSS feeds for other blogs. But, with that said, I obviously have my reasons for the next re-post: George Lenton’s Birthday Mix for Squeegie’s 1 year birfday celebration! Squeegie turned one year old this past April and had a bunch of different artists make them birthday mixes. So many big names jumped up to help with the occasion, so you’ll be seeing mixes from: Jamtech Foundation, Rumblejazz, L.A. Boxers, Neoteric, Sduk, Cntrst, (and also Squeegie’s very own) Brookah and MacGregor!
Lenton’s 9:28 mix is packed with 20 tracks, bizzy-bouncing all over the place. Some real excellent mixing here, as Lenton proceeds to flawlessly jump from genre to genre, covering the grounds of hip hop, drum and bass, house, and of course, dubstep. Top-notch stuff here folks! Tracklisting after the jump.
Brandon Hirzel (aka “Bemo”) and The Glitch Mob proudly present “Beyond Monday,” an experimental installation of art and sound. Live electronic music meets architectural projection-mapping synchronized in the depths of the Los Angeles’ industrial district, painting life back into the urban landscape through the celebration of electronic music, motion-design and film. Cinematographer David Myrick captures The Glitch Mob as they play Jazzmutant Lemur MIDI controllers in sync with Bemo’s detailed visual creations. Utilizing the city as their canvas and technology as their medium, this is truly a unique collaboration. “Beyond Monday” pushes the boundaries of modern digital art and marries the latest technologies in electronic music, motion design and film.
Got some fresh talent coming straight from the home turf today. Rey Resurreccion is an emcee/producer from San Jose, California. Growing up, Rey has emulated hip hop legends such as The Pharcyde, Tupac, and Outkast into a well balanced, classic sound. On the track, Rey comes with a smooth laid back style over a combination of hard drums, original compositions, and nostalgic samples. The album “Limitless” has the feel of Dr. Dre’s Chronic 2001 production with the delivery of an emcee like Rakim or Nas. Rey independently produced and released the 14 track opus titled “Limitless” which features Oneself, Ronnie Lee, & Gi.
So I’m back on track with the posting game, and I’m comin’ atcha with another installment of KIHT! Both of these tracks are long time favorites. So by no means are these the latest and greatest, but I’m pretty much down to play these any time. They’re not straight hip hop, but they both bang it hard.
Chew Fu refixed Eurythmics Sweet Dreams with some dope verses from J-Cast and Substantial, melding the awesome power of the 80s with hip hop and infusing it all with some electro-housey flavor. Throw this one on during a set and the crowd will be most pleased! Go Palms Out crew!
I’ve been following Teen Wolf for a minute now. He tends to produce “simpler” tracks, but that doesn’t mean it’s not good stuff. Strong loops, solid vocal stabs, and that distinct electro sound paralleling the likes of the Smash Disco crew down in L.A. Teen Wolf is from Las Vegas but I know he’s played plenty of shows down in LoCal. Anyways, his remix of J-Kwon’s tipsy will get them top 40 hunnies bobbin’ they heads!
I like this one better than You’re a Jerk. Very much like it, essentially following the same format with a catchy vox loop, but the beat and lead are way sicker.
