This double CD release offers a selection of highlights from the Multiverse studio’s recent history. Leading the charge are both ‘Lion’ and ‘Pop Pop’ by Vex’d, records that formed the first bridge between classic British industrial music and dubstep, a fusion now championed by the likes of Surgeon, Distance and Milanese.
This appears alongside Joker and Ginz’s ‘Purple City’ the track that spearheaded the emergence of the Purple Wow phenomenon. Also present is Pinch’s ‘Qawwali’ one of the key tracks that broke dubstep to a global audience via Mary Anne Hobb’s Dubstep Warz compilation. Pinch’s influence within Multiverse extends across the compilation through his collaboration with P Dutty on ‘War Dub’, featured in the movie Children of Men, and ‘Get Up’ with Massive Attack vocalist Yolanda Quartey and Bristol legend Rob Smith (RSD). Equally the more avant-garde work of the studio is represented through Moving Ninja, an artist who pioneered the blurring of boundaries between dubstep and sound design, and emptyset, whose eponymous debut album fused the streamlined European minimalism of Mika Vainio and Raster Noton with Bristol’s unique bass heavy production style.
This ground breaking selection of tracks sit alongside contributions by techno/dubstep pioneer 2562, half-step progenitor Loefah, Skream and Caravan label boss October.
Big shout to the guys over at Bass Music Blog for letting us know about this awesome release! They’re up in the blogroll now too, so please, go check em’ out! Quality toonz on the regular.
Oh man! When this little gem popped up in the inbox, I was immediately excited. Finally, an excuse to post some hot butt on this blog! So there it is fellas, booty, and we all want more of it! (Get it? Bootymore? YEAH.)
So yeah, got some crackin’ new b-more coming from Yeah! Woho! This one is prone to start massive booty-shaking of the female kind. Something happens when a lyric comes on telling you to actually shake your butt — I’ve dropped Top Billin’s Shake My Ass with the pleasant result of overenthusiastic booty bouncing from the all ladies in the house. I’m going to go ahead and assume this shall do just the same! The fantastic horns blasting throughout this track, accompanied with that non-stop shaker, give this tune a really fun party vibe. Time for you to download and do what the damn song tells you to do!
Sir Nenis (Top Billin) says: “this club tune is dope, name is daft, but track is fire!”
We all love Rusko here at CYV, hes been dropping bombs for quite some time. His debut album O.M.G.! was released just 2 weeks ago, and as he explains in this mad decent podcast, the album is more than just dubstep. Its mixes together jungle, dub, pop, and even old-school rave sounds to make an album that showcases Rusko’s multi-faceted production skills. Current favorite from the album:
The full album, released on Mad Decent, is available on iTunes. And, that podcast interview is definitely worth a listen, Rusko voices his mind on the new Album, growing up in York, dub culture, smoking cali weed, drinking moutain dew, pirate radio, love for 80’s soul, and his favorite track of 2009 (hint: its from Joker) so make sure to check that out.
I try my best not to constantly “re-blog,” as I feel that many blogs these days, whether they exist in the music realm or not, tend to simply be RSS feeds for other blogs. But, with that said, I obviously have my reasons for the next re-post: George Lenton’s Birthday Mix for Squeegie’s 1 year birfday celebration! Squeegie turned one year old this past April and had a bunch of different artists make them birthday mixes. So many big names jumped up to help with the occasion, so you’ll be seeing mixes from: Jamtech Foundation, Rumblejazz, L.A. Boxers, Neoteric, Sduk, Cntrst, (and also Squeegie’s very own) Brookah and MacGregor!
Lenton’s 9:28 mix is packed with 20 tracks, bizzy-bouncing all over the place. Some real excellent mixing here, as Lenton proceeds to flawlessly jump from genre to genre, covering the grounds of hip hop, drum and bass, house, and of course, dubstep. Top-notch stuff here folks! Tracklisting after the jump.
Got a real big stepper comin’ in from Ottawa-based producer, Matt Ashes. He’s been producing for a good while now, but has just recently started producing dubstep. The purple-stained lead in this next track is absolutely beautiful — this is just the kind of dubstep that I’m really into. Kind of reminds me of a Joker track, but it definitely feels “less hip-hop.” The breakdown around 2:45 is a melodic journey into a warm summer day; I just want to close my eyes and dig my toes in the sand! It’s got this great atmospheric pad and some wonderfully placed notes…and then it drops back in with the heat! Booyah!
Also, coming from the same folks who sent that Minus remix our way is a nice electro masher from Site1. The vocal stabs are exquisite! Kaya – Rat Race (Site1 Mashup)
Electric Daisy Carnival is one of, if not, the largest dance music festival outside of Europe and WMC. It is held in Southern California (LA) and last year’s attendee numbers were an estimated 140,000. This year marks the 14th annual EDC and the CYV™ crew will be in attendance! Some of us were there last year and it was an unbelievable experience — we saw so many epic artists and danced our asses off all weekend.
So we’d like to say thanks to everybody who came out and made the last party so awesome! We had some last minute issues and had to move the party upstairs to the Agenda Lounge — not necessarily a bad thing! You can check out the photos here. We’ll be back atcha with next month’s party information within the week. Get stoked! More big things in store!
