Berlin based New Yorker Naifian aka Mike Genius drops his debut release on Meanbucket, a synth driven, garage influenced, rhythmical master piece. The sweeping sub bass and keyboards make this a perfect soundtrack for the post holiday blues and the long cold dark nights ahead.
On the remix tip Nightshifters premier Dj Donna Summer grabs the original and turns it on it’s head with thumping kicks and a bassline that will destroy dance floors worldwide, leaving us with what could be the first certified banger of 2011!
Label bosses Dj Tuco and Quime turn in two separate remixes, the first of which heavily reflects Tuco’s mid 90′s ghetto house influences while Quime gives us what can be described as Uk Funky with an old school rave twist, harking back to the good old days.
Bursting onto the scene, the swedish electro-duo Life Express hits you with their debut EP ’The Hulder’s Spell’ offering something for everyone on this monster release. This EP gives you a delectable palate of sound covering the genres of bangin’ Electro, Electro-Breaks, and Dubstep including remixes from Paul Anthony & ZXX, Run Riot & Yuhei Kubo. The EP is out today on Beatport and all other stores! Fresh to your ears and unforgiving to your ass!
The Paul Anthony and ZXX remix has some great pitch bend action, which of course is pretty much my bread and butter. Now on to the free track though..and this track is what compelled me to post about these guys. Since this is Life Express’ debut EP they decided to celebrate this with a free release called Frantic Factory which is a tribute to the third level of Donkey Kong 64.
This is a creepy and haunting tune, especially the break when you can hear the music box being wound up and played. The eerily ominous tone leaves you feeling uneasy and sets you up for an incredibly satisfying drop, which is filled with 8 bit bloops and electro gnar gnars. This track is one tasty morsel. Urging you to download right now!
The guys from bassmusicblog have been delivering some heavy stuff, release after release. They’ve recently release there first single of 2011, ‘V’s Up’, which is already out on Stamp! Beats. This is the 10th single from our ’12 singles over 12 months’ project (April 2010 – March 2011). The release has seen reviews from Mixmag (4/5) and DJ Mag (8/10) and great DJ reactions from Crookers, Drop The Lime, Bassline Smith, Tomb Crew and many more. Some solid break wobble in this latest tune — nice to see Heavyfeet putting some of the dirty dirty back in his music! Check it outtttt!
Also coming from bassmusicblog, I.D. recently sent us something a bit off his normal path. He’s taken a break from his usual bass-heavy productions to put together a wonderful mix of house and disco, starting off at the treacly depths of 98BPM and working it’s way on up from there. I thoroughly enjoyed this, and I’m sure you will too!

Hello boys and girls! This is Oh My!, captain of the S.S. CYV™, and I’m hear to tell you a story (..that rhymed. Boom!). I’ve been thoroughly preoccupied with finishing up my last semester of school, ever. I’ve taken my last finals, given my last presentations, and written the last “essays” I will ever have to write in my life. Let me tell you, it feels amazing! On top of all this, I’ve been busy working on various design projects and producing tracks non-stop. I let the blog fall pretty behind — this post consists of submissions from more than 30+ e-mails. Some of these posts definitely deserve their own spotlight, so I apologize for this cluster-fuck of downloads, mixes, and soundcloud embeds.
One of my buddies from a couple years back started making some dubs. His name is Ian Murphy and he produces under the guise 65L. I came across his latest piece on Soundcloud and it is some really well-produced stuff! Kind of reminds me of the chill-factor displayed in Skream’s Sub Island or even Rottan, care of dubstep’s favorite wind-instrument, the flute. Airy atmospheric sounds equipped with a strong handle on strategic panning, guide you through a fog-filled journey deep into the dub forest. About 30 seconds in, the sub-rattling bass queues up and delivers the goods!
Check this kid out and show his soundcloud some love! You can catch a full-quality free download there!
Mixpak Records is a taste-making hub for our time. Modern, dimensional, and mosaic-like, Mixpak brings together influences from the worlds of club music, dancehall, rap and beyond and gives them the shared roof of a common home. Like Raphael’s famous painting, The School of Athens, the Mixpak artists represent a powerhouse of sounds that exhibit the label’s distinct branches of breakthrough urban and electronic music, as well as alternative culture.
With brand new releases slated for this fall and winter, Mixpak Records is revving up to be the record label to watch for in 2011. Founded by Dre Skull in early 2009, the Brooklyn-based imprint is the natural extension of both his work as a producer exploring numerous genres and his extensive international touring as a DJ.
As Dre Skull describes: “When I started Mixpak, I wanted to build something that could bridge many different worlds. With the music industry undergoing some cataclysmic shifts, there are interesting opportunities for creativity and we’re trying to play in that space”.
On the 22nd of September, we turned one year old over here at CYV™ (and yes, I know it is now October 7th),and for this joyous celebration, we have a plethora of goodies! We’ve come along way since the start of the blog — we really had no idea the readership was going to grow as fast as it did. It started off with just three members and was a place for us to post up tunes we liked; before we knew it, music was flowing into the inbox on the weekly. We’d like to thank all the readers who’ve been supporting us, especially those from our starting months, and also the many artists that have allowed us to share full quality material with everyone! Keep sending us your music!
We asked a couple of artists to put together some exclusive mixes for our birthday celebration, so thats how we can begin this post.
