If you haven’t heard of Shab Ruffcut, now is the time to listen up! The UK-based founder of it_tizz Recordings has been doing some major promo recently. To get everyone amped on his sound, he has released 8 FREE tracks, all of which are definitively off the hook! From tech house to jazz and disco house, the Ruffcut sound is CLEAN. See especially: “Tonic,” “Born in Iran.”
A new collaboration from our favorite Frenchies Para One, Surkin and Bobmo has really got my clavicle waggin’! Calling themselves Marble Players, these three global dance music icons have initiated the Marble record label. Thus far we’re seeing just two inaugural tracks, “Marble Anthem” and “Playground,” but both are super fresh and are drawing some well-deserved attention back onto the French house scene. Bien joué, les gars!
From Marble: “As you probably heard recently, Marble is a new dance label launched by Para One, Surkin and Bobmo. We already told you these three have begun sharing recording space less than a year ago, and soon spent some time jamming and producing together. Surkin and Bobmo already had their High Powered Boys project, but this new unit, christened Marble Players, is a bit more hardware-oriented, and involves multiple analog/digital mutations; a typical day in the studio would be Bobmo coming up with a vocal digital sample, then Para replaying it on his SP12, then giving it back to Surkin so he can add his own Reason-based beats… you get the picture. Generally, there’s a just a strong taste for manipulating sound as a physical thing in the way Marble Players play.”
I’m not entirely sure if this is a going to be a regular thing knowing me, but it was fun to do up a quick type treatment and its nicely equipped with a bit of alliteration. I’ve got a couple of soundcloud discoveries, some offering downloads, others without. I’m going to keep things simple — short blurb and a Soundcloud embed.
First up is a huge bassline track from one of our writer’s, Crunch Theory. This one is quite the monster!
Riot Reaction = Cracker Jack + D’stinkt.
Swerve is 16. This is his first attempt at jackin’ house. (Please check out his other tracks on soundcloud. Kid serves up some real chunky fidget)
Rubberteeth got a chance to remix Filthy Rehab. Boing!
Oliver Twizt smashes Bubba Sparxxx. The whistle portion at the very end is straight kill.
Our friends from Breakdown are pretty pumped these days as their latest remix soars across the globe driving its dirty but very accessible bassline through each of our bosoms. This Daft Punk rework comes at an all too perfect time as we near the arrival of “Tron: Legacy.”
In less than a couple weeks, the song has over 30,000 plays and 8,000 downloads. Meanwhile Paul Oakenfold has requested a special version of it for his own live sets!
What’s more is that the generous Breakdown brothers are giving it all away for free, just like their other recent tracks. Check ‘em all out while you’re here, and keep your eyes peeled for a Breakdown show in the Bay Area over these next few months.
2. Reset! has twittled my tittilators many a time with their smackin’, jittery sound. “My Trunk,” however, boils their sound down its purest, funkiest filth.
On the 22nd of September, we turned one year old over here at CYV™ (and yes, I know it is now October 7th),and for this joyous celebration, we have a plethora of goodies! We’ve come along way since the start of the blog — we really had no idea the readership was going to grow as fast as it did. It started off with just three members and was a place for us to post up tunes we liked; before we knew it, music was flowing into the inbox on the weekly. We’d like to thank all the readers who’ve been supporting us, especially those from our starting months, and also the many artists that have allowed us to share full quality material with everyone! Keep sending us your music!
We asked a couple of artists to put together some exclusive mixes for our birthday celebration, so thats how we can begin this post.
Many of you are aware of the recent Dandy Kid Records remix competition, in which two of your beloved CYV bloggers took part, along with 200-some fellow up-and-coming producers. What we have not yet announced, however, is that Oh My! and myself each stole a spot on the runner-up list. We thought we should make it known and give you a chance to grab both our remixes while they’re still hot!
