Crookers are back!

With their latest album ‘Dr. Gonzo’, they bring back the big club vibe with a bunch of heavy kick drums and random weird shit that they do best. The release follows on from their last album ‘Tons of Friends’, which seemed to get a lot of negative feedback EVEN THOUGH it wasn’t that bad. I guess when you’re at the top of the game, people just expect you to always do better than the last effort. Having said that, Dr Gonzo is what Crookers fans such as myself have been waiting.

Most of the album was already released in separate EP’s, however there are a few gems that make it worth buying the entire release.

My picks of the bunch are; That Laughing Track, Dr Gonzo’s Anthem, Springer and Carcola.

Keith & Supabeatz are two italian producer/remixers that have been making big waves as of late gaining support from artists such as Laidback Luke, Crookers, Brodinski, Congorock, Shinichi Osawa, Bart B More, Fake Blood, Benny Benassi and many more.

Their first project together began in 2008 whereby they won the Franz Ferdinand’s remix contest for Domino Records followed by their first co-produced EP ‘Pluto’ which gained support from the likes of Congorock and Malente. Fast forward to 2011 and they’ve signed to Fatboy Slim’s Southern Fried Records, remixed for the Crookers, Mumdance and Tony Senghore as well as recently playing world renowned Social Club in Paris with Don Rimini.

Currently, the two are remixing for  Play Paul, Highbloo, Don Rimini, His Majesty Andre, Laidback Luke and Wizard Sleeve whilst their No Pressure EP (teaser) is due out in October.

Keep an eye on these two, they’ve really started to nail their jacked up style and have a big club sound that’ll work for the biggest of crowds. Personally they remind me of how exciting Jack Beats were in 2009/10.

It was 2008. I had just downloaded (legally, of course) a whole trove of Ministry of Sound mixes. Oddly pushing its way to the forefront of my mind was a track called “Salmon Dance.” It was unlike anything I had heard at the time and I wasn’t sure how to feel. I warmed up soon enough, and found myself dropping baritone “Wows” when something merited enough of the gasp factor. I was hooked. I grabbed up as much Crookers as I could. Electro was the sound, and these guys delivered a hot steaming slice of banger right to my desktop speakers.

Fast forward to 2011, and Dr.Gonzo is the new monstrous sound of internationally renown Italian duo, Phra & Bot. The new Gonzo project, that features Swedish two-piece Savage Skulls alongside Canadian producers Neoteric and Wax Motif, sees Crookers go back to their roots, serving up three absolute club bangers!

Bust’em Up is an aggy assault on the senses, Get The F**k Out My House is another furious concoction of anger, energy and fun, whilst Springer, the third, is probably the most outlandish. With serious depth and venom this jaunt to another Crookers planet is helped along with an insane spring/bounce cartoon-esque sound effect that one can’t help but effected by.

Crookers are a force to be reckoned with, this new Dr.Gonzo (a nod to Hunter S Thompson’s Fear and Lothing…) project is testament to both their skills in the both the booth and in the studio, welcome back!

So its basically been a full week since I’ve posted…eep. But, I’ve finished off all my finals and now I can get back in the game!

I try not to use this blog as an outlet for incessant self-promotion, but I’d like to share some design work I’ve done thats finally on sale!
