Last Week my single ‘So Sweet’ was released with a wopping 10 remixes from a bunch of fresh talent providing styles of house and electro. Unfortunately due to a hick up, not all tracks released were mastered, but never fear….this actually works out better for you guys. Quality masters of the remixes by Jack Union royalty ‘Campbell‘ and rising star ‘Kunter:Bunt‘ have been now been provided for free download on their sound clouds.
I’m always looking for that straight-up funky-ass no-bullshit jackin’ wonk groove… And it’s not always easy to find just what I’m looking for, but recently I was graced with a forwarded email from Klangekstase Records and was way too happy with the outcome. The email regarded Campbell’s new EP “Check It,” which came out early last month. All three of the original tracks on the EP (“Check It,” “Make It Bump,” and “Slush Puppy”) fulfill exactly what I’m talking about. When I listen to or even just think about these tracks, my mind becomes too boggled with excitement and fixation to even speak. And yet here I am trying to do so. The words that I can come up with to give you a picture of Campbell’s bouncy, bangin’ productions are: delicately juicy percussion textures; a REALLY fresh-sounding bass synth; long exhilarating breakdowns; very well-chosen samples such as those in “Slush Puppy” that are from the Beastie Boys’ “Body Movin’.”
The remixers on the Check It EP all deliver fun, crafty work as well. I’d like to point you towards Whack Flava’s “Check It” remix in particular.
Bryan Barron is MANGLED BASS. Having produced music for only a year or so, he has already created a tantalizing and well-packaged sound – one that nothing could describe better than his DJ name. This is the sound of mangleage.
Barron, who’s from the Huntington Park area of LA, is humbled by his following and his releases on Backzide Records and Baboon Tunes. All he hopes for is a new laptop because his old one died and he currently has no way of providing us with more filth! So someone hook this kid up!
Bone Idle Records is a spanky fresh new label with more than just potential. Off the bat, they’ve pulled in some extremely talented artists, so I don’t think it’ll be long before the name starts making its rounds around the web. They started things off with the Protect the Innocent E.P. from Carbon Parlour, which features remixes from 3D Criminalz, Jack Smith, NS2, & Campbell (many of which have already been featured here on CYV™). Red Hot and Wannabe King are very much electro, so 3DCriminalz flipped the script and cooked up a wobble frenzy while Jack Smith and Campbell went for some more traditional fidget. NS2 switched things up even more with broken beat mix, which breaks up the styles a bit, showing everyone Bone Idle Records isn’t stuck on one groove!
Direct quote from Claire Bradford, the label’s owner: “For me personally I wanted this to be a label that doesn’t ignore new artists when they send in demos, so while we need established talent I also want to hear new guys on the scene and let them know that they will hear back from us and we will keep in touch as they develop, and we will offer technical advice if its needed. Our scene in the UK is very much the home made producer and there is a huge gap in knowledge when it comes to providing a polished piece of music. So if anyone reading your blog is creating the music we love, then they can send a link to their music to us at demos@boneidlerecords.com or drop us some music into our Soundcloud dropbox and we will take a listen and get back to them.”
You can also catch a preview of their next release for Andru Pozzatron’s Get On Up, right here!
Be on the lookout for this cat — Pozzatron has some very well-crafted, off-the-wall beats!
Baboon tunes comes hard with their new Stereo Image EP, bringing you a great collection of remixes for Schenk’s original. I think my favorite remixes come from Killafornia & Hunter Vaughan — and I’ll give honorable mention to Kid Tech. Nothing with a serious wobble here, just some really quality jackin’ house music.
Let’s not stray from our main focus here though; Schenk’s original sets the stage for all of these great remixes. A lovely melodic organ sneaks its way in around 1:50, taking you right into breakdown-town, all before throwing you right back into the washing machine. It’s after this drop that brings the blooperz — the proverbial icing on the cake! This tune is a definite contender on my playlist for this weekend! (Wake&Bake EOS holler!)
And today’s special is: Beat Soup served with a fresh Bangeruette. We got some top-notch fidgetry here, from the home of the wonkiest pitch-bent house music you can get your hands on, South Africa. Baboon Tunes comes hard with great artists like Schenk, Oliver Leigh & Jeff Doubleu. They just released Jack of All Trades: Part 2 on June 7th, and oh boy is this some exciting stuff! I was at work when I happened upon the release, and I ended up listening to almost every single track on the Baboon Tunes Soundcloud. And hey, I’ll be honest, I really hadn’t heard of a bunch of these artists, but I assure you, Baboon Tunes is serving up some seriously jackin’ house music.
Unfortunately I don’t have anything but Soundcloud preview tracks here, but we may have some downloadable promos from the label in the future — so stay tuned and put on them listening ears for all these tracks!
