Tomorrow CYV is lucky enough to host the godfather of digital DJin and the controllerism movement – Ean Golden – at our San Francisco monthly – Bangers & MASH. We’ve been working on this event for quite some time and its gonna be HUUGE !!
Ean’s accomplishments in the DJ industry are world renowned. He introduced the midi-fighter controller in 2009 with industry leading build quality and a ground-breaking mapping. Propelled by Ean’s mind-blowing live perfromances Midi-Fighter was an instant success. He followed up in 2010 with the Novation Dicer which is now the industry standard for digital vinyl djs. One year later Ean worked closely with Native Insturments to bring us a product that literally reinvented digital DJing. Traktor S4 is to digital DJin what the iPhone was to cellphones, hands down the most revolutionary thing to hit the DJ world in the past decade. Traktor S4 has gone on to be the number one selling all-in-one controller in a category it invented. Ean continues to bring us revolutionary product developments through his own djtechtools.com including revamped Midi-Fighter controllers, custom high visibility knobs, and a curated selection of dj accessories – only the best of the best.
His live performance uses a palette of custom controllers: various bass heavy genres are effortlessly blended together into a show that merges art and technology in a meaningful way. Part rock show, part controllerism performance and part dj journey, Ean really puts everything on line at every performance taking it far beyond a traditional dj.
One of your most promising options for New Year’s this year: the Snowglobe Music Festival in Lake Tahoe, December 29-31. The line-up guarantees three days of the nastiest dubstep, glitch-hop, hip-hop, and house. French YouTube mash-up star Madeon will be making one of his debut performances in the United States. Dillon Francis and Figure will be bringing in the exclusive new moombahton bangers in complement to their electro/fidget and dubstep roots (and a lot of drumstep in the case of Figure). Big Gigantic will represent the ever so common saxophone-with-live-EDM format. Underground glitch genius Dave Tipper will most likely be the favorite of anybody who’s had the pleasure of hearing him before. Porter Robinson, the 19- or 20- year-old electro house front-runner who’s been touring with Tiesto, will bring his sound to the Lake. “Community” TV star Donald Glover will be there as his rap alter ego, Childish Gambino. Also on the bill is Datsik, who was recently able to collab with the person who got him into bass music in the first place: Bassnectar. Bassnectar will be headlining the show alongside Pretty Lights, Thievery Corporation, and The Glitch Mob.
Check out the rest of the line-up here because the few artists I’ve mentioned hardly covers it.
Adrian Fox Haskell of Morgan Hill, CA, has been puttin’ his heart and soul into the Bay Area’s EDM scene by 1) co-founding Blockhead Entertainment and throwing underground gatherings in the Santa Cruz Mountains and 2) refining his music production skills so he can start changing the world one twitch and one smack at a time.
That being said, show some love by melting your brain to this twitchy, smacky, exuberantly dark minimal track by A-Fox:
Insomniac is hosting a shit ton of mid-size concerts in Hollywood through the end of the year, including Cosmic Gate, Axwell, Boys Noize, Porter Robinson, Sebastian Ingrosso & Alesso, Borgore, and Nero, but the greatest one of them will be Loco Dice & Victor Calderone at the Music Box on December 17th, due to the excruciating perfection and straight forwardness of their dirty ass minimal and tech-house beats.
This remix by Loco Dice came out in July and it’s definitely one you would want to hear live. Skip to 2:00 where it starts getting funky. Or perhaps if you’re a true fan, you’ll just wait it out….
Also check out the Victor Calderone and Mike Frade remix of “Break It.” It’s got a super hard, jacked-up beat surrounded by some beautiful vocal samples both in the foreground and in the background.
You can visit the official event page and/or ticket link to move forward towards the possibility of joining me at this dope event.
A line has been crossed, one of my favorite weekly bump and grind fest’s has brought my focus for the week to a screeching halt. All I can think about is seeing two of my EDM heroes throw down shredding sets for what will be a steaming, packed night at 715 Harrison Street, home of EPR.
First up we have Brazilian complextro maestros, Darth & Vader; almost never seen in the United States, the duo will be making a stop to brand SF with their own style of in your face, high-tempo, electro assaults. With a heavy stockpile of remixes & original productions you can count on breaking it down from the start of their set till the end, when a club music legend will take the decks bringing everyone with him on a banging, bouncy ride.
The Brookyln bass bad boy AC Slater will be up next, gracing all of us with his signature blend of bassline, fidget, and most likely some dubstep. I promise you it will definitely be very, very sexy as the Trouble & Bass record don always delivers.
To round it off, I will supporting my idols with a performance earlier in the night as Robot Mafia. Stop by, bring a friend, do something questionable in the shadows of a club. Here are a few mixes if you can’t wait to boogie.
We wouldn’t be doing our part as relevant and updated west coast bloggers if we didn’t let you know that this Friday September 14th, Dillon Francis will be visiting SF for an intimate show; The Moombahton Don will be taking over lavish Manor West and I feel it is our responsibility to get some of you fine people in for free!
