Dirtybird and Mad Decent on drip.fm

Sunday, June 3rd, 2012

Big things are on the horizon in digital music distribution. iTunes revolutionized buying and selling mp3′s for pop music, and beatport has done a great job doing the same for dance music. Even with these great places to buy music many of us still spend hours googling for new tracks one by one. Hard to fault anyone for doing this because its so easy and for the most part the final product is the same. What if there was a place where you could get all the tracks from your favorite labels 2 weeks before they get released, plus ticket giveaways, and all for a flat rate of 10$ a month ?

Welcome to drip.fm a new music distribution service for premier labels and their fans. Some of the launch partners include our hometown favorites Dirtybird, Mad Decent, Stones Throw Records, and Fools Gold. Ive been a member with Dirtybird and Mad Decent for the past few months and its well worth the 10$/month. Just having all the new releases two weeks before they drop makes it worth it for me, throw in WAV and 320kpbs downloads on every track plus freebies from their back catalog and its a slam dunk. This is future of music distribution, straight from the labels to their fans with no middle man. I know what its like to be a starving DJ but it feels good to support the artists and labels who bring us gems like Justin Martin’s Ghettos and Gardens, Booty Clap, and Bauuer’s Harlem Shake. This is just the beginning and were lucky to have access to so much music for so little money, if anyone remembers buying vinyl at 15$ a track like me you’ll appreciate how good we’ve got it nowadays.

Save Sunday | Donate To St. Jude’s Research Hospital

Sunday, May 6th, 2012

“I’m going to switch up the format for Save Sunday. If anyone wanted to see what they looked like before, Save Sunday 017 was my favorite over the last year. The new layout will be very different, however I’m still incorporating a monthly mini-mix of sounds I’m feeling. Every month we will select a charity. For every “Like” & “Share” on the original link the day Save Sunday is posted, I will donate 50 cents to the chosen charity. The first charity will be St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. As a precaution, I will lower or RAISE the amount donated per “Like” & “Share” at my discretion so that there is always a minimum donation every month & to ensure I can do this for as long as possible. Cool, let’s see how it goes. I’ll post a screen shot of the donation transaction, of course.

This is the first Save Sunday I ever did & it’s going to be the test rat for this week. I think it’s appropriate at the end.” -joseph

Ramon Tapia’s “Trolley / The Ride” EP

Wednesday, May 2nd, 2012

Ramon Tapia is somethin’ else. His name reminds me of my favorite white (often blackened) fish, and his dry, buoyant, percussion-driven sound reminds me of a paradisiacal alternate universe. You’ll probably see what I mean when you check out his new EP, “Trolley / The Ride,” out now on Skint Records.

Here’s the release announcement from Skint and the streamable EP below:

Ramon Tapia is on the up. With releases on huge labels such as Craft, Great Stuff, Strictly Rhythm and 100% Pure in the last few years, he is turning himself into one of the leading new breed of house producers. We at Skint, are pleased to announce that we have our first release with him which is certain to get the party started as it aims directly at the dance floor.

‘Trolley / The Ride’ are 2 tech infused house tunes layered with percussion and deep driving baselines that would work too well for the peak time hours. Ramon’s productions skills are on fire at the moment that showcase in the support gained from big names over the Miami period.

Jack Beats – You Should Know

Monday, April 9th, 2012

For one minute and forty-six seconds, it’s all up in the air. Have Jack Beats abandoned that grimy bass sound that we see visualized in the dripping green slime of their logo?

Alas, they have not. They are more devoted to it than ever, fusing it with some catchy yet tolerable vocals from Donae’o so that even Swedish House Mafia fans will succumb to its craze-inducing, bouncy fidget wobbles!

“You Should Know” will be out May 13th on Columbia Records.

Who Is Gorgon City?!

Saturday, April 7th, 2012

A new partnership in sound has emerged across the pond. The legendary Foamo and the slaughterous Rack N Ruin have united – and created a monster. This monster is both sophisticated and ghetto, mellow and rousing, ravey and beachy. This monster is Gorgon City!

Get acquainted – because Gorgon City may well be one of your main sources of soulful vibes and fat bass from here on out.

Check out “Odyssey” and “The Truth” in the players below, and also be aware that their remix of Santigold’s “Disparate Youth” is available as a free download here!
