Meet Gonzo, P.h.D.

Saturday, April 30th, 2011

It was 2008. I had just downloaded (legally, of course) a whole trove of Ministry of Sound mixes. Oddly pushing its way to the forefront of my mind was a track called “Salmon Dance.” It was unlike anything I had heard at the time and I wasn’t sure how to feel. I warmed up soon enough, and found myself dropping baritone “Wows” when something merited enough of the gasp factor. I was hooked. I grabbed up as much Crookers as I could. Electro was the sound, and these guys delivered a hot steaming slice of banger right to my desktop speakers.

Fast forward to 2011, and Dr.Gonzo is the new monstrous sound of internationally renown Italian duo, Phra & Bot. The new Gonzo project, that features Swedish two-piece Savage Skulls alongside Canadian producers Neoteric and Wax Motif, sees Crookers go back to their roots, serving up three absolute club bangers!

Bust’em Up is an aggy assault on the senses, Get The F**k Out My House is another furious concoction of anger, energy and fun, whilst Springer, the third, is probably the most outlandish. With serious depth and venom this jaunt to another Crookers planet is helped along with an insane spring/bounce cartoon-esque sound effect that one can’t help but effected by.

Crookers are a force to be reckoned with, this new Dr.Gonzo (a nod to Hunter S Thompson’s Fear and Lothing…) project is testament to both their skills in the both the booth and in the studio, welcome back!

At Dawn We Rage – Death Metal Gear (Original Mix) by at dawn we rage

“There used to be this spot in Berkeley called Blakes On Telegraph. One time some friends and I threw a party there on a Sunday; it just so happened to be Halloween. Zombies, monsters, and high-heels ensued and it was fantastic. We invited LightsoverLA to headline and that’s when I met Storm. Since then this guy has laid down some serious pipe, I mean really giving it to everyone. An armory of original productions & remixes accompanies the talented musician/live act as he dons his newest savage moniker, At Dawn We Rage.” -joseph

Gambit & Captain Panic! – Real Thugs by Captain PANIC!

“Eons ago, it was fortold that Captain PANIC, a being of great power, would breach the boundaries of the mortal realm. His task was to analyze any systematic corruption on the planet. It it was deemed beyond saving, Captain PANIC would re-originate the planet to cleanse it of corruption, killing all currently living organisms in the process. Upon reaching Earth, Captain PANIC was pleased with things such as oatmeal cookies and rootbeer.” -via Captain Panic Soundcloud

Drink This

Tuesday, April 26th, 2011

A friendly musician is a relief, let me tell you. Someone who lives on planet earth with the rest of us and isn’t afraid to tell it like it is. It’s like when you nod at someone in public and they nod back. Of course some people can get away with flipping you the bird, but hey that’s life. Dark Elixir hails from Manchester and has been steadily dealing out demolishing tracks for a few years now. Totally approachable, the rising trip-hop/bass music producer has sorted CYV with a heavy drumstep track for free download! As always, lurk the music and tell your friends.

Hyper Bass

Saturday, April 23rd, 2011

Watchout CYV’ers, we got bangerangs INCOMING. Its a whopper of a remix by Minus for DJ Hyper off his upcoming album ‘The Panic”. It starts slow .. and then without warning .. its becomes a full on assualt of lightsaber bass – think Terravita. Track could have used a switchup for the second drop but Minus is definitely one to watchout for – myspacetwitter.

The End (Minus Remix) – Hyper

Round 2 of the assault comes from Hungary with ‘Beatman and Ludmilla’ taking their turn at the remix. It feels more like the original but with a bassline that’ll make Charlie Sheen shift into second gear.
