Mo(tune)z

Friday, February 25th, 2011

Say Hello to Motez. This Australian-based producer is originally from Baghdad, but made his journey to the big island in 2006 to continue pushing his music. He’s been makin’ tunes since 1998 (granted these fell under the Trance/Progressive feel — but hey, WHO wasn’t producing that kind of stuff in 98?) and is now thick in the game, producing tracks that have garnered support from Miles Dyson, Frederik Mooij, Geht’s Noch?, Audiobotz, Carbon Parlour, Andru Pozzatron, and many more! He’s quite the busy guy, with releases on Plasmapool, Backzide and Loudroom Records. Of the latter (for his “A Trick or Two EP”), we saw some quality remixes from Nick Supply, Jackinori, and Frederick Mooij.

His latest “No Need to Panic” EP has been released on Plasmapool and is some real quality high energy jack. Being that this genre coincides so closely with the fidget movement, you’ll get a taste of some wonky bass and chunked out vocals — just what you need to twerk that booty like a club rat allstar! The actual tune ‘No Need to Panic’ is superb. His alternating bass chops give the track some real bounce, and once the second drop hits, you’re eardrums are blessed with some crazy upward-bending synths that really step up the intensity of the track.

Enough talk though, please enlighten yourself and check these beats:

I must say this new artist feature hits close to my cold, machine heart. K-THEORY is the formation of two personality polar opposites into one farm fresh factory of boom. The California bay area duo represent a two armed, multi-genre speaking monster of smash, burning up the blogosphere, quickly amassing a loyal army of followers one venue at a time.

Flatline (Clip) by K-Theory

On one half we have a silver-tongued whirlwind of Jameson & Hedonism, accented by an undeniable ability to accumulate intelligent, talented, beautiful individuals to join his exclusive collective dubbed ‘NUPA’ (No Ugly People Allowed). By day, he is a talent curator for two of the hottest event companies of San Francisco Nightlife [TORQ SF | EPR], but by night a glitz & glamor beat transmitter. This is Dylan.

Funk Symphony (Clip) by K-Theory

The other limb is a quiet, quirky, sound engineer extraordinaire with a dark past spanning from psychedelic trippindicular trance to downtempo lurking dubstep. He is a mad scientist with an affinity for grinding, growling productions to grate faces on soundwaves. Say hello to Dustin.

This is K-THEORY’s entry to a remix competition sponsored by lovestep villain NiT GriT. Please yourselves and press play, then remember to vote by FEB 02| 28 | 11 for K-THOERY’s remix.

Big Room French style Electro hardcore! It’s as if a baseline and an electric guitar had a threesome with a chainsaw! Stellar chopped up noises and brilliant effects thrown in to soften the edge and featuring the mighty Haezer on vocals. To accent the madness is The Mastertrons remix which smashes an thrashed electro medley with big kicks while The Deficient busts out Dutch House on acid. Finishing up this package with an exclamation mark is LaTourette who punches out thick French Electro with Rave Warehouse Attitude!

Blue Snow

Tuesday, February 22nd, 2011

Berlin based New Yorker Naifian aka Mike Genius drops his debut release on Meanbucket, a synth driven, garage influenced, rhythmical master piece. The sweeping sub bass and keyboards make this a perfect soundtrack for the post holiday blues and the long cold dark nights ahead.

On the remix tip Nightshifters premier Dj Donna Summer grabs the original and turns it on it’s head with thumping kicks and a bassline that will destroy dance floors worldwide, leaving us with what could be the first certified banger of 2011!

Label bosses Dj Tuco and Quime turn in two separate remixes, the first of which heavily reflects Tuco’s mid 90′s ghetto house influences while Quime gives us what can be described as Uk Funky with an old school rave twist, harking back to the good old days.

With support from Neoteric, Joyce Muniz, DJ Feadz, Willy Joy and many more!

In Ya Face

Monday, February 21st, 2011

London-based renowned duo Heavy Duty Brothers get right up in your grill for the first time on Sketch.

A constant in the Beatport Electro House Top 100 Chart since they got together in Oct 2009, these boys have released on Champion Beats, Ho-Ju and Sick Recordings — ‘In Ya Face’ is a stripped-back, irresistibly-danceable bass-heavy bopper that does exactly what it says in the title!

3D Criminalz show up again with a superb, funk-inspired basscentric Fidget masterpiece — with the perfect balance of breakdowns & drops that is integral to the 3D sound, this is another one to look out for!

Shuval is certainly sending a message, as he drops a simply COLOSSAL Electro House remix on this release! Influenced by the Deadmau5/Wolfgang Gartner style, he blends edge-of-your-seat synth excitement with his own impeccable production talent, unleashing his second monster remix on Sketch.

Check it out on Beatport.

On the first of next month, “arntreLA.com Presents RAW: Strictly Sinatra Mixtape Release Party” is set to go down in Bellflower, California, 20 minutes SSE of Downtown Los Angeles. The party features a slew of sick talent and represents the type of fresh energy that keeps shit moving down here.

One of the DJs performing at RAW on March 1st is known as SlimeCity, and he has struck a chord with me through his majestic dubstep compositions. Check out “RedRum” and “Bawse” below… These are some heavy late-night jams that’ll stick with you well into the following day(s).

Para One Pairing

para1

Para One has really slipped out of my radar since I saw him rock the house at Le Bataclan in Paris two years ago. As of today he’s back in the crate!

The first 14 seconds of his “Romane” remix sounds like the intro to some played-out Dutch house gimmick. After that it’s all uphill as this jacked up groove quickly escalates with glitchy percussion and mind-bending synths.

Bart B More – Romane (Para One remix) by Para One

More relaxed but just as mind-bending, “Toadstool” focuses on incessant popping sounds and the type of vox stabs that you would hear on an early 90s Yamaha synthesizer. This track covers a lot of ground and takes unexpected turns at every opportunity, so make sure you listen all the way through!
